Why Hasn’t VR Gaming Picked Up Yet?

Virtual reality is a concept that has long existed outside the world of games. In video games, one of the earliest attempts was the Nintendo Virtual Boy, and that failed miserably. Probably because the games were all black and red. Nowadays, virtual reality gaming is updated to look and feel real, but why have they still not broken out and become successful?

It’s expensive

Virtual reality systems require you to buy another system or peripheral. You can just attach them to your PC or console of choice if they are supported. It is a bit expensive because you have to buy the virtual reality goggles (or whatever it is that you put on your eyes) and then the peripherals. These peripherals will allow you to control your movement with your arms in the games. These are a bit expensive, and the following reasons will complement why this is bad.

Not enough good games

There are some decent games for virtual reality, but a lot of them are not that good or popular. This is also because of the limited concept. You can’t play a game like GTA on VR because it requires a lot of space. On top of that, the gameplay would have to be tweaked to fit the VR landscape. Some games make it work, but not enough of them to warrant buying an expensive VR setup.

The games can be tiring.

One of the major reasons is that it can be tiring to play a VR game. There are some VR shooters like the Borderlands 2 port and other original ones. It can be tiring for some people because they have to move their hands, and some require them to walk around. There’s no issue if you just use a controller or keyboard to move around, but havign to move your body a lot of the times can be tiring.

People get sick

It’s not entirely like a bodily illness, but some people get dizzy and nauseous when they play VR. Even if the VR isn’t that action-packed or fast-paced, people will stop playing it in an hour or less. That’s because the visuals can cause headaches. Certain cases of seizures and vertigo may also happen, but that’s just a part of playing the VR game.

People get bored right away

Unless you have a large library of games, most people would just turn it off. There’s not much to do apart from VR games, where you can socialize or hang out with people. VR doesn’t have a lot of sustaining power to keep people interested in the game. There aren’t enough games that make people stay and keep playing, but then again, most of them get sick of it right away.

In Closing

VR gaming has potential, but with the high price of entry, limited games, and people just getting lazy as they play the games, this market isn’t getting higher anytime soon. If there’s a way to keep interest and a game that might do the trick, perhaps VR can get a shot at rising in value.
