PewDiePie Will Stop Making His Family Vlogs

If you have been watching YouTube for nearly 20 years, then you would know who PewDiePie is. Whether you love him or hate him, there’s no denying that this man is one of the top (maybe the top) YouTube channels of all time. While at one point he held the title of the channel with the most subscribers, he isn’t even in the top 10 most-subscribed channels today. That’s also partially because he hasn’t been uploading a lot of content that made him famous.

PewDiePie is stopping his family vlogs

The headline for today is that PewDiePie will cease his family vlogs. This doesn’t mean that he is quitting YouTube or won’t be uploading any more videos (he still is). This just means that he is ending the videos with his son in them. He says that it is for the safety of his son, and he wants his son Bjorn to make those decisions for himself when he comes of age. It’s a nice gesture, and PewDiePie doesn’t need to shill out his child. It’s business as usual as he is still making content, so just keep the kid safe.

A look at PewDiePie

PewDiePie has been on the YouTube scene for almost 20 years. He started back in 2010 as a simple video game content creator and has since become one of the biggest channels in the world. So let’s take a brief look at his career.

Rise to fame

Between 2012 and 2014, PewDiePie became one of the fastest-growing creators on YouTube. His “Let’s Play” videos, particularly of games such as Amnesia: The Dark Descent, attracted millions of viewers. In 2013, he became the most-subscribed individual creator on YouTube, marking a major shift in online entertainment as independent creators began competing with traditional media for audience attention.

The many controversies

During the mid-to-late 2010s, PewDiePie faced several controversies related to jokes, comments, and content that critics considered offensive or inappropriate. These incidents led to significant media coverage and business consequences, including the termination of partnerships with major companies. Despite these controversies, he retained a large and loyal audience and continued producing content independently. One of the most infamous controversies he had was “The Bridge,” where he uttered a racial slur.

The battle against T-Series

One of the most notable periods in PewDiePie’s career occurred in 2018 and 2019 during the highly publicized subscriber competition with T-Series. The rivalry became a major internet phenomenon, inspiring memes, campaigns, and widespread media attention. Although T-Series eventually surpassed him in subscriber count, the event highlighted the global influence of online creator communities.

Content beyond gaming

As his channel grew, PewDiePie diversified his content. He began creating comedy sketches, reaction videos, internet culture commentary, and meme reviews. Series such as “Meme Review” and discussions of online trends broadened his appeal beyond gaming audiences. His channel evolved from primarily gameplay-focused content into a platform centered on his personality and commentary.

Current state and legacy

PewDiePie is widely regarded as one of the most influential figures in YouTube history. He helped popularize the creator-driven entertainment model, demonstrated the commercial potential of individual content creators, and inspired countless YouTubers around the world. His career reflects the evolution of online media from a niche hobbyist platform into a major global entertainment industry. He may not be doing “Let’s Play Videos” today, but people still follow his content, which feels more real and relatable.
