The Witcher 3 is definitely one of the best games of all time. It even won the Game of the Year back in 2015. It currently has 2 DLCs that further expand the game once you finish it. They are Heart of Stone and Blood and Wine. Now, they recently announced a third major DLC called Songs of the Past, and everyone is happy.
What do we know so far?
It is being developed with assistance from Fool’s Theory, a studio that includes developers who previously worked on Witcher projects. The DLC is planned for release in 2027 and marks Geralt’s first major new adventure since Blood and Wine.
The story details remain secret, but the title suggests a journey connected to events from the past. Many fans believe the expansion could explore forgotten chapters of Geralt’s life, revisit important characters, or help bridge the narrative between The Witcher 3 and the upcoming The Witcher 4. However, CD Projekt Red has not officially confirmed the plot.
The expansion is expected to include new quests, characters, and story content similar in style to previous Witcher expansions. Reports and industry rumors suggest it could be comparable in scope to Hearts of Stone or Blood and Wine, offering a substantial standalone adventure rather than a small content pack.
Before the DLC launches, an update for the base game is also expected. This update will improve technical features and prepare the game for the new content. We’ll have to wait for more, and there isn’t even a trailer yet.
Why was the Witcher 3 a huge success?
If you didn’t know, the first two Witcher games were just okay. They didn’t move the needle or anything, and they were based on the books. However, Witcher 3’s colossal success made it a name that gamers will remember forever. It also skyrocketed CD Projekt Red’s fame through the stratosphere. They are going to be releasing the Witcher 4 soon, and despite its rocky start, Cyberpunk 2077 is generally loved now.

Strong story
The game’s world was the key reason for its popularity. The Continent felt alive, with diverse regions, cultures, monsters, and side activities. Unlike many open-world games at the time, exploration was consistently rewarding, encouraging players to discover hidden stories and secrets throughout the map.
Strong character writing helped the game stand out from its competitors. Geralt of Rivia was portrayed as a complex and believable protagonist, while supporting characters such as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Triss Merigold, and Ciri were given depth and memorable story arcs. Players became invested in these characters and their relationships.

The game’s visual presentation
The gameplay itself was just okay; it’s your typical action RPG, but the mechanics were kinda messy. The game’s visual presentation impressed players and critics alike. Its detailed environments, dynamic weather, realistic lighting, and distinctive art direction created a world that felt immersive and believable. Combined with a strong soundtrack, the atmosphere left a lasting impression on players. We can only dream and hope that the new DLC can further the presentation and everything that Witcher 3 previously offered.
