Ashes of Creation: Cancelled? What’s the Deal?

Ashes of Creation Controversy

If you’ve never heard of the game Ashes of Creation, then maybe count yourself lucky. This game is slated to come out sometime in the near future as a promising MMO. Unfortunately, recent controversies have put this game on indefinite hold, or some speculate that it might be cancelled. The issue about this game being cancelled is that this game was funded or backed by players.

To give you a slight history lesson, Ashes of Creation went through crowdfunding back in 2017. Fastforward today, the game has gotten some nice updates and more funding. The sad part is that there has been a lot of major controversy in the past few months. First of all, mass layoffs have happened, and the lead creative director and co-founder, Steven Sharif, also left.

Right now, the game is in limbo and is not available for purchase. In fact, it was removed from Steam back on February 2 of this year. Players and backers are now angry with what’s happening. Forget about not getting a potential refund; the game might not come out, and all of that money they put into the game will be for nothing.

There are only three things that can happen to the game as of now. For some miracle, it gets released, since there are still people behind this game, be it on the financial side. The other thing is that the game will be cancelled forever. What happens to the players who backed it up? We can’t really tell, and the last thing is that the game will be locked in legal battle for years to come.
