Back in the 2025 Game Awards, a game called Gang of Dragon was announced. It looked slick and gave you that Yakuza game feel, although they have no relation. They even have a famous Korean actor, Ma Dong Seok. You may have seen him in movies like the Train to Busan and Marvel’s Eternals. What is this game, and what happened to it?
What is this game?
We don’t really know much about it, other than it has that Yakuza feel to it. It seems to involve the concept of Asian mobs, and the gameplay we can assume is action-oriented. People initially thought that this was a part of the Yakuza series, but SEGA has no involvement in this whatsoever.
What happened?
NetEase has officially funded this game up to this point. From what we saw in the trailer, it looks like it has a lot of promise. Impressive visuals, but we’ve yet to know the gameplay. The studio (Nagoshi Studios) requested an additional $44 million in funding from NetEase. Unfortunately, NetEase has stated and confirmed that it will no longer be funding the project.
What happens next?
NetEase has allowed Nagoshi Studios to continue their work, even if it is from another entity’s funding. Basically, if they can find someone to fund this. Sadly, for now, it seems that no one has stepped up to fund the project. This game is in limbo until they can get more money to make it. So is the game cancelled? We can just assume that its waiting, waiting to be continued.
