Monster Hunter World: Guide to Beating Nergigante

Monster Hunter World is one of the best games for those who love bashing monsters and have a little bit of planning and preparation. One of the toughest enemies, and one that many players agree is like a wall, is NERGIGANTE. If you’re having a bad time with this bad boy, we can help you with our guide.

When can you fight Nergigante?

Nergigante appears early in the story, but he’s not as tough yet. He also appears in other maps like the Wildspire Waste, Everstream, and Guiding Lands. However, the big part where he becomes a mandatory fight is the Assignment Quest “A WOUND AND A THIRST”. You cannot continue with the game’s main story until you beat Nergigante, located in the Elder’s Recess, so this is where our guide will be helpful.

Ideal Gear for Nergigante

If you bought the game years after the was released, there are sets called Guardian and Defender armors. These things are OP for this part of the game. These were made by the developers so that you can breeze through the base game, so players can access Iceborne right away. Nergigante is also weak to Thunder, so have a weapon that has it or the Dragon element.

You can also go for armor pieces that are well upgraded, that have these Skills.

  • Earplugs – Nergigante roars a lot, so you need these so as not to get stunned temporarily.
  • Quick Sheath – Perfect for putting your weapon so fast, so you can run away and do some recovery.
  • Health Boost – Ideal when Nergigante can land some devastating attacks on you.
  • Evade Window – This is good for dodging those Dive Bombs that he does; even a little help can go a long way.

Fight Strategy

Follow these tips to fight Nergigante, and you may have a chance to win.

Be Aggressive and Break Some Spikes

His spikes are deadly

Nergigante is aggressive as hell and will always be in your face. To answer his aggression, you need to be aggressive as well.  Defense or dodging isn’t your priority, as you should always attack it. Try to break its spikes, but don’t prioritize it. In fact, breaking his body parts isn’t something you should be too concerned about. Keep attacking him on his sides, since he will always attack from the front.

The Dreaded Dive Bomb

His Dive Bomb is one of the deadliest attacks. The good thing is that you can time your dodge. He’ll fly a bit and then dive. If you can nail the pattern, you can dodge the Dive Bomb successfully and continue your attacks. Dive Bombing will also break some of his own spikes. Using a Flash Pod may cancel his Dive Bomb, but he’s a bit resistant to it.

Weakened but Still Dangerous

When he’s weakened, he becomes more aggressive. This is the time for you not to be aggressive. This is the time when you have to pay attention to what he does. If he’s being rowdy, just run, hide, or dodge. When he calms down a bit, try to land your attacks because it won’t take too long for him to go down. This is also perfect to inflict him with status ailments like Poison. Keep attacking him when it’s safe, and he’ll be down in no time.
