With the recent release of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen for the Nintendo Switch 2, people are getting their nostalgia glasses on and have bought and played them. Newcomers and longtime players are loving it, but there’s always that part that they need a little refreshing. That part would be the way or how to catch the Legendary Dog Trio. Whether they’re dogs or not, Suicune, Entei, and Raikou are Pokémon that players will want, and there are not enough Master Balls to get them.
UNLOCKING THE LEGENDARY TRIO

In order to start catching the Legendary Trio, you need to do the things listed below.
- The Elite Four should be defeated (first time)
- Unlock the National Pokedex
Once both conditions are fulfilled, the Dogs will start roaming in the Region of Kanto. They will pop up as random encounters in the tall grass only. Inner areas that have encounters will not make the Legendary Dogs appear.
ENCOUNTER MECHANIC
Keep in mind that these three were not in the original Gen 1 games, so they don’t mix them in the story, but the Switch 2 versions are the same as the GBA, so the process is the same. This means that, unlike the Legendary Bird Trio (which you can catch all three), you can only catch one of the Legendary Dogs. This is determined by the starter Pokémon that you choose.
- Bulbasaur = Entei
- Squirtle = Raikou
- Charmander = Suicune
You can’t get all three in one playthrough, unless trading is implemented in the future.
STOCKING UP SOME ITEMS
If you don’t want to use your Master Ball on them (which is the easiest way), then stock up on some items. Buying Ultra Balls or Great Balls can work well, too. If you do have some extra balls lying in your inventory, then that’s good too.
Buy some Max Repels, because you’ll need them to make encountering the Legendary Dogs faster and easier.
HOW TO CATCH THEM
Follow the steps below, to help you catch these Legendaries.
STEP 1 = Pick a Spot and Save the Game
Pick any place that has tall grasses, then save the game.
STEP 2 = Put a Level 49 Pokemon First
Put a level 49 Pokémon at the start of your party.
STEP 3 = Use Max Repel and Find an Encounter
Now, use Max Repel, with the level 49 Pokémon in your party’s first position, try to find an encounter in the tall grass. Any Pokémon below the level of 49 will not appear since you have Max Repel on.
STEP 4 = Wait or Change Spots
There are only two things that can happen here. You either encounter them or you use up all of your Max Repels. Just reset and load the same save file. Changing locations is good because the spawn rate is random. Do the same steps again until you are able to encounter them. They aren’t that tough; just make sure that you don’t knock them out, otherwise you’ll reset again.
