Roblox is in danger of getting banned in the Philippines. Recently, the Cybercrime Investigation and Coordination Center (CICC), along with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), recommended that the game be banned. Some good news, the ban has been delayed for now.
Why is Roblox going to get banned in the Philippines?
There are a multitude of reasons why the game is going to be banned. Here are some of the most noticeable ones, after all, Roblox is a bit controversial even where it originated from. The core of this is that they want to keep the children and younger players safe from harm.
Grooming allegations
This one is pretty much common in different countries. A vast majority of players are children or at least underage. Predators stalk the rooms and try to groom children. It starts off innocent, and it then evolves into something more sinister later on.
Harmful content
If you didn’t know, Roblox allows its users to make games. Think of it as a room where anyone can enter as long as they are made accessible. These rooms can have different game modes that anyone can play. The sad thing is that some people can make these game rooms a bit adult-themed. That’s right, harmful content can be uploaded and made available. It could be violet or sexual content, and that can’t be good.
Criminal activities
There have been reports all over the world that numerous people are using these games to commit criminal activities. They won’t be committing the crime in the game but in real life. Think of these encounters as a meeting place where people huddle to commit the crime.
There was even a report on the local news where a child was instructed to commit a crime in his school. While that crime didn’t happen, imagine if it did. Regardless, this reason is another hurdle for those who want to keep the game afloat.
The ban was delayed
The ban on Roblox for now has been put on hold. Right now, both divisions, the CICC and DICT, are monitoring Roblox. Both divisions have demanded something from Roblox. Think of them as security measures or conditions to continue operating. Right now, there is no official statement from Roblox, but if this ban goes through, the Philippines would be part of other countries that have banned Roblox.
What can happen if Roblox gets banned in the Philippines?
Maybe most of these players will just use a VPN anyway. The game maybe banned but VPNs are not, so to the skilled Filipino players, they can still play the game. It’s just an added hurdle to playing the game, but people are smart, and they’ll play the game that they love.
People will probably just find something else similar. Minecraft is there, but Roblox has the advantage because its free. That hasn’t stopped people from looking. It’s also worth noting that the only time video games (not a specific one) were banned was from 1981 to 1986.
