Steam has had this thing called REGIONAL PRICING for a long time. What this means is that video game prices may vary depending on where you are in the world. For example, a game may cost $60 in the US but will cost $50 in Canada or $45 in Southeast Asian countries. The aim for this is to maximize profit, since not all countries have the same income rate. Now, Sony is trying to do this for their PSN stores online and calling it DYNAMIC PRICING.
What is Sonly planning with this?
With the recent news that Sony just pulled off their plans on releasing for PC, maybe this is their way of participating in the pricing war. However, Sony has been experimenting with this since last October 2025. Players have noticed sudden differences in pricing with older and already released games.
It is also worth noting that Sony has to ask permission from third-party publishers if they are fine with the price adjustments. Not including sales, these dynamic pricing numbers are mostly for the PSN stores online. This means that physical copies being sold in retail shops are not changed.
Sony will also have that timely sale on their games and others on the PSN. You’re already getting a deal with the dynamic pricing, so why not add more discounts to it? If you’re unsure, you can always check online and see if the prices from other countries are equal, less, or more than yours. This is just a safety measure to make sure things are in effect.
