XBox Project Helix: What is This? A New Console? or?

A lot of people are in agreement, even the non-Xbox fans can say that the Xbox 360 was the best console Microsoft released. It dominated that generation of gaming, beating the PS3 to the dust. Nintendo did its thing with the Wii, but the 360 was leagues better. It was cheaper than the PS3, a lot of the exclusives for the PS3 were released on it anyway, and it had better online support and connectivity.

There’s a reason why first-person shooters and the Halo games made so much money at the time. Unfortunately, Microsoft has been blundering it with their follow-up consoles like the Xbox 1 and Xbox Series X.

XBox Project Helix

Recently, Microsoft announced Project Helix. Speculations say that it is the next-gen console from Microsoft, which would be in line with the Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 6, although the latter hasn’t even been announced yet. We don’t really know much except for some key details.

The first one is that this console can run console and PC GAMES. That’s right, the console will have an OS similar to that of Windows. What does this mean? It means that you can access and use programs commonly used on a PC. Think about web browsers like Google and programs like MS Office. The other big game changer is that you can install and run PC clients like STEAM, GOG, and EPIC.

That’s a big deal, because one of the main reasons people don’t buy the Xbox is that a lot of the games are going to PC anyway. This changes things, but the system’s OS may still be limited, but not necessarily weak. We’ll have to wait for more details in the future to see how strong and how expensive this console might be.
