The long-awaited Final Fantasy IX Remake is probably not coming, or is it? It’s been six years since that NVIDIA leak, and people are still clamouring for an FF 9 Remake. People love this game, but the question is, does it really warrant it? FF 7 got a Remake because it was indeed popular. Let’s try to theorize why FF 9 may or may not get a Remake.
Why Final Fantasy IX Will Get a Remake
These are reasons why we think FF 9 is going to get a Remake.

It has its fans
Final Fantasy IX may not be the highest-selling FF game, but it has its fans. These fans will buy the game when it has a Remake. How good the Remake is, we can’t tell just yet. There is a demand for it, and Square Enix might strike at it.
There’s an anime coming out.
People are excited for the anime, but we don’t know if that’s fully coming out as well. We do have NEWS about it. Most people think that the Remake will come out alongside the Remake. Think of it as a package deal, but the stories are a bit different; they’ve done that before.
It deserves a chance.
FF 9 was probably the least desired and favored out of the PS1 trio. FF 7 got all the glory, FF 8 got a bit of that, and FF 9 got squished in between. Considering that it was the last game in the PS1 era and around that time the PS2 and FF 10 were coming out, FF 9 deserves to get its time in the spotlight.
Why it may not get a Remake
We also have to look at the negative side of things, and these are potential reasons why the game may not have a Remake.

Low demand
The original didn’t have that many sales, so Square Enix may see it as poor demand. There’s a loud minority of people who want it, but it may not warrant enough of a Remake.
The approach to the Remake
FF 9 already has a Remaster; the dilemma now is what this remake will be? Will it be like FF 7 Remake? That game was loved, but some people criticized its gameplay for not being turn-based and the heinous changes to some of the key moments in the story. If FF 9’s story gets butchered, maybe fans won’t like it, and the approach will be all for nothing.
Square Enix’s business plans
Square announced that its recent games haven’t been selling well. FF 16 sold well, but not well enough. FF 7 Rebirth also did well, but just not enough. That was due to their PlayStation exclusivity deal. Square has announced that it wouldn’t be doing exclusive deals for now. That also means that this Remake if it is real, may have been delayed.
