Fans Are Angry at Dead or Alive 6 Last Round

Dead or Alive 6, as of now, is the last fighting game of the franchise. We mentioned fighting game, since there is a spin-off, but that’s more on the sexy side. The game was released back in 2019, but it did get an update last June of 2026, which was called Dead or Alive 6 Last Round. That game has been littered with negative reviews and angry fans.

Why are the fans mad?

Steam Reviews

The biggest complaint is that Dead or Alive 6: Last Round does not add enough new content to justify being marketed as a new definitive edition. While it includes improved visuals, a photo mode, several previously released DLC characters, and a handful of costumes, many fans expected major additions such as new fighters, new stages, new gameplay modes, or substantial quality-of-life improvements. Instead, players found that the core experience is almost identical to the 2019 version of Dead or Alive 6. Many reviewers described it as something that could have been a free or low-cost update rather than a separate release.

Barebones online features

Lack of Online

Another major criticism is the lack of features that have become standard in modern fighting games. Dead or Alive 6: Last Round still does not include rollback netcode, which greatly improves online match quality, nor does it support cross-platform play. Competing fighting games increasingly offer these features, so many players expected the “definitive” version of DOA6 to modernize its online experience. Their absence made the game feel outdated despite its new release date.

Buying the DLC again

Honoka

One of the most controversial issues involves downloadable content. Although most DLC transfers from the original game, the crossover characters Mai Shiranui and Kula Diamond, along with their costumes, do not transfer. Players who already purchased these characters years ago must buy them again if they want them in Last Round. This decision led many longtime fans to accuse Koei Tecmo of charging loyal customers twice for content they already owned.

Gameplay

The Dead or Alive series has long been criticized for its expensive DLC strategy, especially costume packs. Last Round does little to change that reputation. While some costumes can be unlocked through gameplay, a large amount of cosmetic content is still sold separately, and the total value of all DLC remains extremely high. This reinforced the perception that monetization was prioritized over meaningful improvements to the game itself. This meant that if you didn’t own the 2019 version, you couldn’t get it anymore, on digital anyway.

A ton of expensive DLC

This isn’t anything new, but this game is notorious for selling a lot of DLC that is super expensive. They still did that for this version, and the list below is just to give you an idea of what you will be tempted to buy. These are mostly cosmetics or appearance, so you don’t have to worry about getting them, but it is still absurd to say the least.

Closing remarks

Many longtime fans hoped Last Round would rebuild excitement for the franchise and serve as a strong foundation before the next Dead or Alive game. Instead, the release has led to accusations of being a “cash grab” due to its limited improvements, controversial DLC decisions, and missing features. Even players who still praise DOA6’s fast-paced combat and counter system often argue that Last Round missed an opportunity to restore confidence in the series.
