5 Bad Video Game Sequels

Video games have been around for over 7 decades. A lot of these games are successful, and some of them fall flat. Sequels and prequels are natural, but in this case, we’ll be taking a look at 5 bad video game sequels. They couldn’t live up to their previous’ game’s standards and are entirely mocked by a vast majority of the community.

Devil May Cry 2

What made the first DMC game fantastic, or stylish, was the fast-paced combat. You could do combos and attacks in quick succession. They slowed all of that down in DMC 2. While it isn’t a bad game, it is a bad sequel. Players also noted Dante’s lack of enthusiasm in the game. He became what people say, an old person with no fun. It’s interesting that they put this game at the end of the timeline. So, it makes sense why Dante felt old and had the fun stripped out of him.

Resident Evil 6

We’re not picking on Cap Com, but here’s the down low. RE1 was ok, RE2 was goated, RE3 was ok, RE4 was goated, RE5 was ok, and now RE6 was bad. It broke the cycle of being goated to ok. A lot of people think that Resident Evil 6 tried to do too much. The survival horror aspect was gone, or at least, you couldn’t feel much of it. The game had you control different characters in different aspects. A lot of the gameplay pretty much focused on action and bullets flying. It felt different for an RE game, except for the characters in it.

Overwatch 2

This is definitely one that deserves to be on this list. Overwatch 1 was definitely a standard when it comes to hero shooters. It dominated the genre around 2016 and slowly lost its luster around 2020. The announcement of the Overwatch 2 game sparked a spark of hope for the game, but it soon fizzled out after Overwatch 2 came out. They removed loot boxes for battlepasses, but more importantly, they failed to deliver on the promises, such as a single-player story campaign and more. It’s funny because now, they just removed the 2 and went back to Overwatch as if nothing happened.

Watchdogs Legion

Watchdogs 1 and 2 were loved because people call them GTA, but with hacking. Legion pretty much stripped the story of that for a generic be who you want to be. While that doesn’t sound so bad, a lot of the magic from the first two games was gone. Every character felt generic, so the campaign elements were lost. It didn’t help that the game launched as a buggy mess.

Zelda 2: The Adventure of Link

We’re ending this one with a classic, not entirely the first bad sequel, but it deserves it. The change in the gameplay from an over-the-top perspective to a classic side scroller wasn’t what made it bad. What made it bad was that the game was confusing to traverse. The game also looks a bit unappealing in some parts, and it just punishes you if you don’t know what you’re doing.
