Duellum Dissidia Final Fantasy is set to release this month. However, it’s not without controversy. The first thing is that most people are frowning on it because it is another mobile game gacha. Taking a look at Square Enix’s track record for their Final Fantasy-related gacha games, all of them have shut down in a couple of years.
In fact, its predecessor, Dissidia Opera Omnia Final Fantasy, has shut down entirely. So people are somewhat skeptical about this one. It doesn’t help that this one has a very distinct playstyle and gameplay. Nevertheless, there are those who are excited for it. However, here lies another problem: it has a limited region release.
What that means is that the game isn’t going to be released internationally at the same time as the servers go up in Japan and North America. It seems countries in Europe, Southeast Asia, and Australia aren’t getting this game, yet anyway. There might be a plan for a global release, but Square Enix is really shooting itself in the foot with the limited region release.
However, taking a look at their other gacha games, there have been those that have been getting a delayed release. In the case of Opera Omnia, Japan has been getting the content first, and then it made its way to the international scene. All we can do now is wait for the international and official release of this game. Skeptics may say that it will have an end of service in a year, but a lot of us are patiently waiting for this one.
