Nintendo of America Sues the USA

Nintendo of America is suing the US government for the insane amount of tariffs that it had to pay. For those of you who are unaware, President Donald Trump has announced the increase in tariff costs to outside countries since last year, 2025. The Nintendo Switch 2 was announced in January of the same year. Due to the high tariff costs, Nintendo had to cover those expenses.

Just to be clear, we’re not diving much into the whole legal aspect of it, because we’re in it for the news about the games. If you want to know more and get an in-depth idea of what the lawsuit covers and all of that, head on over to AFTERMATH. They have a more detailed article about the legal drama of it all.

For us, the summary is that Nintendo of America wants a refund for the tariffs that they had to pay. How this ends is going to be interesting because those same laws are still applicable. The impact on gamers is the obviously high costs of goods. While we can assume that the Switch 2 won’t have any price decrease, even if the refunds are made.

Aside from Nintendo, other video game companies like Sony have also had to deal with the tariffs. Microsoft, maybe had some runnings, but a lot of their stuff is made in the US, so the blow might not be that heavy. Regardless, these tariffs can make prices high, such as those for physical games. This is why most people go for digital purchases and downloads. Then again, that can’t apply to physical consoles like the Switch 2.
